Founding BOard of Directors
North East Next Door Redevelopment Council was founded in September 2017 by five community advocates, who have lived in, worked in and or advocated for the interests of Northeast Houston for nearly 20 years. Seeing the inefficiency and unbearably slow progress of the institutional - or “traditional” rebuilding process after a natural disaster, but inspired by the residents' collective spirit and fierce determination to rebuild, Dineta Frazier, Huey German-Wilson , Keith Downey, Juan Sorto and Kenneth Williams launched an organization - originally called Northeast Next Door Redevelopment Council- to help them achieve the recovery goals of residents in Northeast Houston.
With the tremendous support of donors, volunteers and corporate partners, that organization has grown from a five-person volunteer team into the "go-to" organization headquartered in Northeast Houston and is recognized as a leader in disaster resilience and recovery, with a mission to shrink the time between disaster and recovery.
With expanding service needs the organization re- branded in 2018 changing its name officially to, Northeast Houston Redevelopment Council. In doing so the new name allows the organization to grow well beyond its hyper-local roots in Trinity/Houston and Kashmere Garden, while still retaining the legacy and spirit of those early days.
